Fonzy @ the Worlds - Men's Road Race

28th September 2008 - Russell Downing finally proved what he always knew, he could compete in the Worlds & finish with a very respectable result. Downing finished the road race in the peloton with former double-champion Paolo Bettini taking 49th place, the highest placing for Great Britain & the only GB rider to finish.

Fonzy Wins the Richmond Grand Prix!

20th September 2008 - The 'Prince of Premiers' topped his Premier Calendar Series win by taking the honors at the Richmond Grand Prix. He won by just 3 seconds beating brother Dean into second place. Russell Downing is now the first ever rider to win seven rounds of the Premier Calender Series. Perfect preparation for next Sunday's World Championship road race in Italy where he'll be representing Great Britain along side Steve Cummings, David Millar, Chris Froome, Ian Stannard & Geraint Thomas.

The team are poised to do well in the Tour Of Ireland after their victory in the British Premier Calendar Series. The lads have all been training hard & looking for stage wins & form that will continue onto the Tour Of Britain next month. Rich & Greenfield Triumph @ The 2008 Track Championships, Manchester Velodrome!

18th September 2008 - Womens Scratch Race: An agressive affair with a small field containing Olympic Gold medalist Victoria Pendleton. Alex Greenfield was one of three early fallers but regained composure & was actively at the front throught. Ella Sadler Andrews initially made the first move of the race but was caught at the final bend by Hannah Rich. Pinarello RT finished with a fantastic 1, 2; Hannah Rich taking the honours closely followed by Alex Greenfield in 2nd.

A Near Miss For Downing @ The Tour of Pendle!

10th August 2008 - After catching the break in the closing stages 'Fonzy' managed to beat all but Rob Hayles to the line giving him yet another podium finish. Russell was riding a rather special yellow & red Valverde Prince (the only one currently in the UK) especially inscribed with the words 'Don Fonzy - Prince of Premiers'. Fellow team mates Tom Murray, Andy Roche, Malcolm Elliott, Peter Williams & Lee Davis finished 7th, 16th, 21st, 26th & 34th respectively.

East Yorkshire Classic - Another Victory for 'Fonzy' Downing.

3rd August 2008 - After a short break the British Premier Calendar continued under the fine Yorkshire weather in Hull. Russell Downing now riding his training bike after Friday's crash had an eventful (puncturing) but triumphant ride. After 98 miles Downing outsprinted Kristian House taking both the race & the Premier Calander Series. Team mates Peter Williams, Tom Murray & Lee Davis finished 8th, 14th & 17th respectively.

2008 British Circuit Race Championships

1st August 2008 - Ater the floods of 2007 the British Circuit Race Championships returned to the East Yorkshire Town of Beverley. Russell Downing started well but his race ended when he came down as part of a bunch on the cobbles. He was seen by bother Dean (the eventual winner) walking away with half of his bike in each hand! Peter Williams finally finished 4th, Malclolm Elliott 7th, Tom Murray 13th & Matt Kippling 21st.

The RT Boys 'Sprint it out' for 2nd place - Colne Town Centre GP!

16th July 2008 - On a typical Summer's evening of rain, sunshine & yet more rain, Malcolm Elliott won the bunch sprint to finish second ahead of team mate Russell Dowining. The winner Ian Wilkinson was already over the finish line with a cool 10 seconds to spare. The Pinarello RT team are now putting in their final preparations for this weekends events; The Granfondo Pinarello in Treviso, Italy.

1st & 2nd for 'Fonzy' in Blackpool!

6th July 2008 - Tour of Blackpool - Sunday proved to be even more fruitful for Mr Downing; comfortably taking 1st place ahead of Ian Stannard & beating Friday's winner Rob Halyes into 3rd. Fellow Pinarello RT team mates Tom Murray & Peter Williams finished 6th & 8th repectively.

4th July 2008 - Blackpool GP - It was a race of three men, Graham Briggs, Russell Downing & the eventual winner Rob Hayles. Out in front it was a battle of the sprinters with Russ's late attack securing him 2nd place at the line.

2nd July 2008 - A photo finish at the line revealed Russ Downing was just pipped to the post by Rapha's Chris Newton. Malcolm Elliott finished 10th & Tom Murray 12th.

National Road Race & Otley Town Centre Circuit Races

26th June 2008 - Pinarello RT boys Pete Williams (left) & Tom Murray (right) are putting in the final preparations ahead of this weeks races. Tonight they compete in the Otley Town Centre Circuit Races before travelling to Stanley, Wakefield for Sunday's National Road Race..

26th June 2008 - Otley Town Centre Circuit Races - It proved to be a wet & windy Thursday night in Yorkshire. Despite the conditions Russell Downing managed to take 2nd place with Sam Webster, Tom Murray & Malcolm Elliott finishing 12th, 16 & 20th respectively.

29th June 2008 - National Road Race - A sprint to the finish with Russ managing 6th place.

 


Downing Wins 8th Big Race of the Season - Robert Price GP Wales.

22nd June 2008 - Pinarello RT's Russell Downing is in pole position to become British Road Champion for a second time after yet another win this weekend. Out on his own at the finish with former Pinarello RT rider Peter Kennaugh (2nd) almost a minute behind, Downing was taking no chances. Malcolm Elliott finished 5th 2.32 mins behind.

Abergavenny International Criterium - a breeze for Downing!

20th June 2008 - Sheer class shone through as Russell Downing & Ben Swift (GB) broke away in front. The finish was 'down to the wire' with Downing triumphant. "That was a great win" Downing commented afterwards. 'Fonzy' was happy. Team mates; Elliott, Williams & Murray finished 4th, 10 & 12th respectively.

'Riders of Health' - Elliott, Downing & James Toseland Ride at Donnington Park.

19th June 2008 - Pinarello riders Malcolm Elliott & Russell Dowining Joined Moto GP star James Toseland at Donnington Park to help promote his charity ride 'Riders of Health'. The charity supports African health workers ride & maintain motorcycles used to reach remote African villages, delivering health care where it wouldn't normally be possible. Toseland & the Pinarello boys joined 52 riders who purchased tickets to be able to ride along side their hero around two laps of Donnington's Moto GP circuit. Bennetts Insurance (Toseland's personal sponsor) developed the fund raiser around Toseland's race number, 52.

Russell Downing & James Toseland just happen to be old school mates & both love the Pinarello Prince. Toseland rides his Prince, given to him by Phil Griffiths of Yellow Ltd, as part of his training regime. Russ being 'king of the pedal' rather than petrol is always on hand to offer advice.

Malcom Elliott........the clear winner in the 'Circuits De Stone'.

18th June 2008 - It was a sensational win for Maclom Elliott in the first Circuits De Stone race in Stone, Staffordshire. Elliott shot out in front almost from the start, extending & then maintaining his lead throughout, the pack unable to catch him. 2nd & 3rd places were decided in a sprint finish with Pinarello RT's Peter Williams beating the series leader, Dean Downing ( Rapha Condor), to the line. Russell (Fonzy) Downing, suffering with a little cramp came in 4th & Tom Murray finished 8th.

Team Winners with 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th & 17th places in the Beaumont Trophy!

15th June 2008 - Simply unstoppable! Pinarello RT gave it all & won just about everything (bar 1st place). Peter Williams narrowly missed winning, being pipped at the post by Robert Hayes (Team Halfords). Russ Downing came in close behind to take 3rd place (again despite a broken wrist), followed by Tom Murray in 4th. Malcolm Elliott completed Pinarello RT's four top ten placings finishing 9th with Andy Roche coming in 17th. The Team competion was won comfortably with Russ retaining his 200 point margin at the top of the Premier Calendar Series.

1st & 2nd for Pinarello RT @ the Brighouse Circuit Races

10th June 2008 - Fresh from racing in Norway the Pinarello RT riders were on fine form last night at the Brighouse Town Centre Circuit Races. This was street racing at it's finest. Fast & furious from the off with local lad & Pinarello RT rider Tom Murray taking second place in a sprint finish. However, the true honours of the night, belonged to Malcolm Elliott. The man who's fitness & form just goes from stength to strength. A clear win giving Pinarello RT another top placing to add to a long list this season. Injured but not out, Russ Downing finished 11th & Peter Williams came 20th.

Alex Greenfield Wins the Women's Brentwood Criterium!

8th June 2008 - Alex Greenfield took first place with a commanding 8 second lead in the Women's series race at Brentwood. At one stage she was the lone leader, ahead of the pack by 15 seconds.

Pinarello RT @ the Ringerike Grand Prix.

4th - 8th June 2008 - Proceedings kicked off on wednesday with Malcolm Elliott & Russ Downing finishing 7th & 10th repectively in stage 1. Tom Murray gathered momentum on day 2, stage 2, taking 16th place. After 5 days Pinarello RT finished 4th in the Team competition with Russ Downing (broken wrist & all) clinching our highest overall rider position, 16th.

4th & 5th for Pinarello RT in the Rogaland Grand Prix!

1st June 2008 - Russ Downing & Malcolm Elloitt gave it all yesterday, taking 4th & 5th places respectively. Russ unfortunately sustained a broken wrist but has vowed to ride on.

1st June 2008 - Rogaland Grand Prix - UCI International Cat 1.2 - The 191km race across Norway awaits Pinarello RT this Sunday. Team Manager Phil Griffiths is already there preparing for the arrival of his riders; Russ Downing, Malcolm Elliott, Tom Murray, Pete Williams, Freddy Johansson & Andrew Roche. Pinarello RT's 'man on fire', Russ Downing, will be striving to continue both his domestic & international season form.

 


A Stage Win For Murray in the Morcambe Bay 2 Day.

17th/18th May 2008 - Tom Murray secured 3rd place overall with his stage 3 win for Pinarello RT. Ex Pinarello RT rider Kevin Dawson won the event.

An All Downing Finish! Russ Triumphs in The 53rd Lincoln GP.

11th May 2008 - Sibling rivalry to the finish! Russ Downing continued his unbeatable season form to edge brother Dean into second place, winning by 0.03 seconds. Fellow team mates Malcolm Elliott, Peter Williams & Andy Roche finished 9th, 32nd & 47th respectively.

Downing Does it Again! Victory in the Chas Messenger 2 Day.

3rd - 4th April 2008 - Russell Downing triumphed yet again for Pinarello RT over the bank holiday weekend. His two stage wins secured him first place overall, continuing his superb form this season.

'Team Winners & a Top 3 Finish - East Midlands International CiCLE Classic.

27th April 2008 - Malcolm Elliott (last years winner) managed to take 3rd place with a superb sprint finish in the East Midlands International CiCLE Classic, Melton Mowbray. Elliott together with fellow team mates Russ Downing (5th) & Freddy Johansson (31st) also secured 1st place in the team rankings for Pinarello RT. Pete Williams finished 53rd & Tom Murray 54th.

'King of the Mountains' Pete Williams on Form in the 51st Shat Elliott.

20th April 2008 - Pete Williams narrowly missed victory in the 51st Shay Elliott Memorial race on Sunday. It was a neck & neck sprint finish with David O'Loughlin (Pezula) just pipping Williams to the post. Both Williams & O'Loughlin completed the race in 3 hours, 33 minutes. Fellow Pinarello RT team mates Malcolm Elliott & Russ Downing finished 7th & 8th respectively. Pete Williams also finished first in the 'King of the Mountains' overall.

12th March 2008 - Despite the storms & travel chaos, the Pinarello RT 2008 team was officially unveiled to a packed house in Stone, Staffordshire. The team were joined by fellow Lady riders Hannah Rich & Alex Greenfield with team manager Phil Griffiths hosting the event.

11th February 2008 - Alex Greenfield beat local Evelien Arys in the women's Omnium on Monday night, at the 6 days of Hasselt in Belgium. Alex and the GB team stopped off on their way to the World Cup in Denmark.

2008 Starts Early for Pinarello RT!

08/12/2007 - 15/12/2007 - The new 2008 Pinarello RT Team were taken to the Pyrenees for a little pre-season training. The team-building sessions involed skiing as well as riding.
