Three riders from the Pinarello Ladies RT were competing at Revolution 18. Hannah Rich and Alex Greenfield were competing in the Girls Future Stars races and Rebecca James was competing in the Junior Girls Sprint International Competition, which pitted GB against Germany.
First race in the Future Stars competition was the 1 mile dash. Both Alex and Hannah were prominent throughout the race, with Hannah making a solo attempt to win with 3 laps to go. Unfortunately Hannah was caught in the last lap eventually coming home in 9th place, with Alex finishing in 6th.
Next race was the Girls 5km Scratch. Once again both girls were at the front throughout the race, but there was confusion over the lap board at the end of the race with the bell ringing after the race had finished. Although Hannah was first over the line, she was eventually placed 5th with Alex placed 8th.
Last of the girls Future Stars races was the Devil and this clearly illustrated the strength of Alex and Hannah over the rest of competition. Both Alex and Hannah swapped places at the front of the race to control the pace throughout, with both riders making it through to the last 3 and an all out sprint to the line. Alex used all her experience to time her effort to perfection coming home in first place closely followed by Hannah in second.
Rebecca, meanwhile was wearing GB kit for the first time in setting a flying 200m time of 11.944 seconds, second fastest behind the current Junior World Champion, Kristina Vogel who completed the 200m 11.885 seconds. In the first match sprint Rebecca was up against Vogel, but although being in strong position after the first lap, hesitated and could not regain control of the race and finish a disappointed second. In her other two match sprints on the night, Rebecca made light of the opposition, the second of which was against Charleen Delev, bronze medalist at the Junior Worlds. Rebecca’s contribution meant that GB out-pointed Germany to win the overall competition.
